Importance of Technology in School Education
Technology is an amazing resource for students, but many schools around the globe are struggling to take initiative & to take advantage of its benefits in the classroom and beyond. As students get comfortable with technologies, they become more innovative and will have an easier time while facing critical situations. As an educator, we can make a lasting impact on student’s lives by using technology in ways that familiarize them with the advanced skills. In the majority of cases, primary and secondary school students do not find instruction of technical courses attractive. Students lack the motivation and dedication to learn algorithmization, programming, physics and chemistry. The aim of the BPS SKILLATHON project is to make the technical courses more attractive to students and spark their interest in further study of those. The Faculty of Computer Science & Science will participate in the project. Possible basic Activities for Students The courses “A Day with a Robot” and “Measurement around Us”, which were realized during the course of the project, were attended by primary and secondary school students. From July 2022, five courses were held for the 6th to 10 th . During the courses, the following activities will be conducted prepared for pupils:
• Robotic kits
• Augmented Reality
• Audio-visual technology for the creation of an audio-visual project.
We are planning following action plan for the use of technology to enhance our student’s career development:
1. Encourage teamwork Teamwork is a word our students are going to begin to hear often when they enter the workforce. The word ‘teamwork' appears on most job descriptions and listings. Fortunately, we can help your students prepare for their careers by using technology to collaborate amongst themselves. Suggest apps and programs that provide students opportunities to work amongst themselves, share files and collaborate.
2. Develop critical thinking skills Next to teamwork, critical thinking skills are probably the most important skills employers want to see in potential candidates. We can help our students access tools and resources online that will allow them to develop habits of working through challenging tasks and employing creative problem-solving.
3. Inculcate responsibility Lending devices to students for schoolwork can help them develop a sense of responsibility that will aid them in their careers. It’s common for students now to use laptops and mobile devices, and this will prepare them for using public devices as their own.
4. Set the stage for life-learning learning The students who make a career out of learning are most successful in in life. So, if we can use technology to spark a student’s curiosity to learn, we may just spark a lifelong passion that will help them in their career.
5. Evaluate students with online education portfolios(e-Portfolios) Portfolios help students’ express creativity in areas that are difficult to assess. This can help students who plan to move forward in creative industries share a variety of formats, including video, music and art.
6. Developing genuine learning experiences Technology can help our students by providing a real-world learning experience as they use social media, wikis and peer-reviewed research to find answers to questions.
7. Develop independence and self-regulation With the right technology, we can allow our students to progress at their own pace and illustrate their abilities to be independent and self-regulating. These are going to be important skills as they transition into their future careers.
8. Aid in skill development and self-assessment Allow our students access to diagnostic tools to help them identify their own skills and adoptability. IT Tools can help students determine which field of work to enter, and this insight can help shape their career path.
9. Develop digital literacy When students use technology in the classroom, they have a better handle on using technology within the workplace. It’s important that we don’t take for granted that students are already versed in new technology. Technology is often used as a tool to make education easier, but it can also be a tool to help enhance student’s career development.
10. Robotic Kits The robot kits allow to build different types of robots and to solve tasks of various difficulty. The robot control is made possible through the programmable brick that controls engine (wheels, belts, robotic arm) and also can read and process the data measured by the robot’s sensors such as distance, brightness, direction, etc. The orders for the robotic brick can be entered directly in the interface by assembling and setting of simple icons. The commands and programs for robot can be also inserted by the computer connected with the robotic brick, which allows solving even relatively difficult tasks.
It was a very happy, nostalgic and emotional feeling when I visited my teachers and school after such a long time and it is hard to explain such mixed feelings in words…but here I am trying to do the same! Many past memories came gushing…as much as I went there to remind myself of where I came from and remind myself of my roots, I felt very humbled to see my teachers who were very happy to see me. The pleasant and distinct aroma of the computer lab where I saw computer for the first time, the class rooms I progressively moved from one to next, the verandah where I spent time reviewing for exams, the staff rooms that we as students used to dread to go past….the playground / stadium where I performed in few annual events… - a few of such memories flooded my mind during the small time I spent at school… I am glad to see so many updated facilities for students and the passion of teachers to see their students succeed…which make this school a crown jewel for many students to come…. thanks to Principal Mr. Prashant garu to accommodate me in his schedule during my unplanned visit…
