Examination System

For Classes Pre-Primary I & II
  1. Learning as an ongoing, wholesome process will be evaluated in a continuous comprehensive manner. The Comprehensive Assessment Process, at this stage, will focus on the daily, consistent progress made by the child in academic as well as co-curricular activities.
  2. The assessment procedure will be based on the child’s daily interaction in the class, his/her levels of general awareness, the quality of work produced by him/her, internalization of the concepts taught during the course of classroom interaction and the consequent learning outcomes throughout the year.

Primary Wing
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION, EVALUATION AND PROMOTION NORMS
For Classes I to V :
  1. Classes I to V will have two terms each:
       Term I-April 2018 to September 2018
       Term II-October 2018 to March 2019
  2. Each term will have two rounds of Periodic Tests, one Term Exam and one round of Internal Assessments.
  3. Each round of Periodic Tests will have one test per subject of 20 marks.
  4. Term Exam for each subject will be of 80 marks
  5. Each round of Internal Assessment for each subject will be of 20 marks and will include-:

  • Term wise weightage and distribution of marks will be:

  • In each Term, syllabus tested in the Periodic Tests of all subjects will also be tested in the Term Exams for classes.
  • For Classes Pre-School & Pre-Primary :

    UNIFORM SYSTEM OF ASSESSMENT 2019 -20

    Format for Result Register & Sample Report Card for Classes VI to XI

    In this regard BPS has devised Uniform System of Assessment, Examination and Report Card for Classes I–XII from Academic Year 2019-20 onwards as per details below:

    1. There will be new model of progress report cards for classes I–II, II–VIII, IX &X , XI & XII.
    2. The marks and grades both will be reflected in all the classes.
    3. For classes I and II existing scheme of eight cycle assessment would continue.
    4. For classes III – V, pattern of assessment given by CBSE for classes VI – VIII, will be implemented having two terms i.e. 1st term and 2nd term. However, both the terms will be treated separately without including portion of 1st term in the 2nd term. .(Annexure – C)
    5. For classes VI – VIII, the scheme of CBSE given in Circular No: Acad-14/2017 dated 21.03.2017 regarding Uniform System of Assessment, Examination and Report Card for classes VI – IX from Academic Year 2017–18 onwards will be followed. (Annexure– B)
    6. In classes VI– VIII, the student scoring E grade in Half Yearly and Yearly examination can be given one opportunity to improve their performance in Half Yearly and Yearly examination separately.
    7. For classes III – VIII, there will be two periodic test in each Term of 40 marks (best one) which will be reduced to 10 marks in report card for final assessment. .(Annexure – D)
    8. For class IX and X guidelines issued vide CBSE Circular No. Academic 05/2017 dated 31.01.2017 on the restoration of Board Examination for class X and Circular No. Acad–14/2017 dated 21.03.2017 regarding Uniform System of Assessment, Examination and Report Card for classes VI – IX from Academic year 2017–18 onwards will be followed.
    9. For class X, a new pattern of assessment will follow having an internal assessment of 20% and 80% external assessment as weightage as notified by the CBSE through letter under reference.
    10. All tests in classes IX and X will have cumulative content.
    11. For class IX and X CBSE pattern will be followed. There will be three periodic written tests in the entire academic year and the average of the best two will be taken. For the purpose of graded learning, three tests may be held as one being the midterm with portion of syllabus cumulatively covered. The average of the best two tests will be taken for final assessment.
    12. For class XI, a new pattern of assessment will follow having two components. Overall Assessment and Session Ending Assessment of 50% weightage each. Overall Assessment includes Periodic Tests and Half Yearly examination. Year ending examination includes complete syllabus in theory and practical/project. The qualifying marks in each subject will be 33%. In a subject involving practical work a student must obtain 33% marks in theory and 33% mark in practical’s separately in addition to 33% marks in aggregate, in order to qualify in that subject. Existing provisions of compartmental examination will remain the same.
    13. For class XII the Board will conduct the external examinations at the end of Class XII. Pattern of Class XI for Periodic Test and Half Yearly will be followed in class XII also.
    14. In class XII CBSE guidelines will be followed and there will be CBSE examination in February/ March. There will be school level Pre Board examinations for practice of students as usual.
    15. The co–scholastic activities for all classes will be graded term wise on a three–point grading scale as given by CBSE Circular No: Acad– 14/2017 dated 21.03.2017

    Details regarding split up of syllabus, design of question paper, blue print and progress report will be provided in due course by the exam. Cell.

    Board will conduct Class – IX and X Examination for
    80 marks in each subject covering 100% syllabus of
    the subject of Class – IX and X only. Marks and Grades both will be
    awarded for individuals subjects. 9 – point grading will be same as followed by the Board in Class XII.20Marks(Objective type including MCQ) 60 Marks (Subjective – Number of questions will be reduced to enable students to have enough time to give analytical and creative responses.)
    This will cover:Periodic written Test,restricted to three ineach subject in an Academic Year. Average of the best two tests to be taken for final marks Submission This will cover: Regularity Assignment completion Neatness & upkeep of notebook Speaking and listening skills Practical Lab Work Maths Lab Practical Map work and Project Work Classwork,Self–Assessment,Achievements of students in the subject, reflections, narrations,journals etc.
    Scheme of studies for 6th additional subject is detailed in Annexure– I
    Note: In case student opts a language as 6th additional subject the modalities defined for Language 1 and 2 shall be followed
    (i)  Periodic Test (05 marks):

    The school should conduct three periodic written tests in the entire academic year and the average of the best two will be taken. The schools have the autonomy to make its own schedule. However, for the purpose of gradient learning, three tests may be held as one being the mid-term test and other the two being pre mid and post mid–term with portion of syllabus cumulatively covered. The gradually increasing portion of contents would prepare students acquire confidence for appearing in the Board examination with 100% syllabus. The school will take the average of the best two tests for final marks submission.

    (ii)  Notebook Submission (05 marks):

    Notebook submission as a part of internal assessment is aimed at enhancing seriousness of students towards preparing notes for the topics being taught in the punctuality, neatness and notebook upkeep.

    (iii)  Subject Enrichment Activities (05 marks):

    These are subject specific application activities aimed at enrichment of the understanding and skill development. These activities are to be recorded internally by respective subject teachers.

    (iv)  Portfolio ( 05 Marks)

    Portfolio is a part of internal assessment which will be based on Classwork, peer assessment, self–assessment, achievements of the students in the subject, reflection, narrations, journals etc.

    Art Education By the concerned Teacher Art Education constitutes an important areas of curricular activity for development of wholesome personality of the students. Students will select one or more forms of creative arts.

    For Languages: Activities conducted for subject enrichment in languages should aim at equipping the learner to develop effective speaking and listening skills.

    For Mathematics: The listed laboratory activities and projects as given in the prescribed publication of CBSE/NCERT may be followed.

    For Science: The listed practical works/activities may be carried out as prescribed by the CBSE in the curriculum.

    1. Co-Scholastic Activities:

    Schools should promote co-curricular activities for the holistic development of the student. These activities will be graced on a 5 – point grading scale (A to E) and will have no descriptive indicators. No up scaling of grades will be done.

    Health & Physical Education (Sports, team & individual events & SEWA) SEWA etc..) By the PE Teacher&Class teacher Health & Physical Activity preferably sports must be given a regular period. Students should be provided opportunities to get professionally trained in the area of their interest. Indigenous sports, yoga and NCC must be encouraged in the schools creating a sense of physical fitness, discipline, sportsmanship, patriotism, Self-sacrifice and health care.

    3.Discipline (Attendance, Sincerity, Behaviour, Values):

    Discipline significantly impacts career shaping and it helps build character, Sincerity, good behaviour and values develop strength and foster unity and co–operation. Therefore, the element of discipline has been introduced class teacher will be responsible for grading the students on a Five-point scale (A to E).

    The internal assessment comprising 20 marks (5+5+5+5) entails objectivity and a structured approach. For a holistic assessment, the teachers are expected to make it an effective tool.

    B.Documentation: -

    Records pertaining to the internal assessment of the students done by the schools will be maintained for a period of three months from the date of declaration of result for verification at the discretion of the Board. Subjudiced cases, if any or those involving RTI/Grievance may however be retained beyond three months.
